Bust it, move it !

Okay, let's get things straight before you read on: I'm a total fan of this game...! It is, in my opinion, the best dancing game on the PlayStation. Now let's proceed ;-)

"Wow, party people !"

Bust-A-Groove (also known as Bust-A-Move in Japan, which could get confusing) features 14 characters, and they all have very different dance styles : Shorty's is sorta childish, Kitty N will get you back to the 80's etc... Those characters also feature a unique style, which suits their theme song and dancing stage pretty well. Get ready to see a "natural playboy", a gangster, robots, aliens... Need I say more ?

You look good tonight

If you want to rock the dance floor, you'd better have style. And this game does ! The backgrounds are dynamic, and evolve through the battle : if you're a good dancer, windows will shatter, lights will get wild and so on. The game's engine is capable of polygon stretching, allowing characters to strike funny poses. The textures are kinda cheap but it's okay, I mean, look at Parappa if you're not happy with them ;) !

Music, makes the people...

The strongest selling point of this game is it's music. It was done by AVEX TRAX, and those people are pros when it comes to J-Pop. But the game isn't all like that : there is techno music, latin themed music. All tracks are really well done (except maybe the Gas-O, Ham and that-gangster-guy one).

Let's dance !

The gameplay is very simple and straightforward : a combination of directions and a X or a O appear on screen. You have 4 beats to repeat them, not necessarily in the rythm. You can also send an attack to your opponent, using the Triangle button. If your opponent doesn't dodge, he'll be stopped in his move sequence.

As I said on the index page, this gameplay might sound a bit dull and dated. Over a long period of time it sure is. But I predict you can play the game everyday for at least 3 weeks before you get bored, and that's if you just play against the console.

As with most game presented on dance!, this game really gets involving and fun when played with friends.
