Singstar Party review

So only a few months after the smashing success of the first "Singstar", London Studio introduces another game in the franchise, SingStar Party. After being repeatedly delayed (the game was originally planned to ship on November 11th, but actually shipped on December 3rd), changes in the track listing over time, the game finally got out. It probably was very successful on the first week, because I bought my copy @ 3 PM and it was the last one of the store.

So... What's new ?

Well, apart from France and some other countries where the game is named "Singstar NRJ Music Tour", the title of this new game says it all : "Singstar Party" is about singing with friends, in a much more elaborated way than the first game.

Let's have a quick look at the 1-Player mode though. Not much has changed, Except that high scores keep track of the short/normal duration of the song, and different difficulty levels now get separate rankings, so it's actually possible to make high scores in "Difficult" mode. The career mode was removed, which is no big deal. Note that you can view a "Hall of Fame" with rankings for every song.

Multiplayer gets better

The new multiplayer mode is divided in 3 sub-modes. Competition and Battle are similar to what could be found in Singstar. The third mode is called "Duet". In duet mode, songs get more elaborated as players must sing together, answer each other, and such. Some songs were meant to be song that way only, and even in solo mode you cannot play them alone (the console just fills the blanks). Duet is fun if you are 2 playing the game, or if you can make two teams. Each team can sing and the best singers win :)

Plus, you can actually use the first game's DVD if you have it to benefit from the duet mode even on songs from the first game, which is a nice addition.

The bottom line

Well, Singstar Party is quite good. Technically and graphically, it is a bit more polished than the original game was, minor flaws have been worked out. In my opinion, if you had to get one of the 2 singstars, get this one !
